Irving Andrews

Oct. 12, 1925-June 8, 1998

Born and raised in Colorado, Irving Andrews was drafted into the Navy and fought in the Pacific theatre during World War II.

After the war, he attended Colorado College and  then attended law school at the University of Denver. He graduated from DU Law School in 1950.

He started his own law practice because law firms in Denver at the time would not African-Americans. He was in private practice his entire career working with Marilyn Traub Meadoff, Harold Meadoff and Robert Rhone Jr. In 1962, he formed a partnership with John L. Kane Jr. Kane and created Denver’s first integrated law firm.

He specialized in criminal law and was an excellent trail lawyer. Irving was active in the Civil Rights movement and attended the March on Washington DC in 1963.
